Varanasi: Life by the Ghats | Ghats at Varanasi are dynamic and offer some spectacular architectures. Some of the popular ones include Dashashwamedh, Manikarnika, Munshi, Man Mandir Ghat etc. Each ghat is structurally diverse. During the monsoon, the river increases in height and volume. It is during this season that one cannot make out the ghats anymore as all of them are generally submerged in water. Images by Soumyadev Sarkar | 28-Jun-2016 |
Varanasi: The Mouth Watering | The Ganges at Varanasi is not only a tourist attraction but also supports a wide range of activities for local people. The river on one hand is used by bathers and on the other hand the boatmen earn their living by providing tourist rides. Although the river is considered to be sacred in the Hindu religion, its water suffers from a huge pollution issue at Varanasi. The source is principally municipal wastes and cremation Ghats along the bank of the river.Images by Soumyadev Sarkar | 03-Jun-2016 |
