Kolkata hosts ‘Safe Spaces for Children’ to provide children a platform to present their views and perspectives through dance, drama, quiz and debate
Kolkata, Oct 17 (NITN) On the event of the 40th anniversary of Terre des Hommes Germany India Program, Terre des Hommes, along with its partners Path Welfare Society and Lake Gardens Women & Children Development Centre presented a children’s event in Kolkata with the theme ‘Safe Spaces for Children’ to provide children a platform to present their views and perspectives through dance, drama, quiz and debate.

The event was be held  at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum.

In line with the goal of making children the protagonists of their own rights by creating opportunities for children’s voice to be heard, a debate is being organized on the topic “This house believes Child Labour is better than living in poverty”.

Children studying in secondary schools (classes VII, VIII, IX) participated in this debate. 

Children also participated in a Quiz Contest and in short plays on the theme of “Safe Spaces”. 

Children who are associated with the organizations: Path Welfare Society, Lake Gardens Women & Children Development Centre, Nishtha and Society for People’s Awareness (SPAN) put up dance performances.

Shashi Panja, Minister of State for Women & Child Development and Social Welfare was present as the Chief Guest.

The German Consul General of Kolkata, Olaf Iversen has agreed to be Special Guest of Honour in the event. Other special guests include Sabina Pandey, Regional Director, Indo German Chamber of Commerce and Ingrid Mendonca, Regional Coordinator, Terre des Hommes Germany, South Asia Region.

Terre des Hommes (Earth of Humanity) is a children’s aid organisation working against injustice faced by children all over the world. Terre des Hommes Germany was initiated in 1967and works for the creation of a just and peaceful world for all children those alive today and the generations to come. Terre des homes supports children in their own environment and social context, with respect and solidarity and without reference to gender, race, caste or religion.

Terre des Hommes started supporting projects and programmes in India in 1975 by setting up an office in the city of Pune.
