Emirates will be serving authentic Onam dishes across all cabin classes on its flights to and from Dubai to Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram until Sept 6, the airline has announced.
The menu will feature traditional flavours of the Kerala harvest festival.
Emirates customers in all classes will be offered traditional appetisers for lunch and dinner of sharkara upperi - banana roasted in sweet jaggery, kaya varuthathu - crisp banana chips and kondattam mulaku - fried sundried chillies steeped in yoghurt.
A selection of flavourful dips essential for Onam, including kaalan made of coconut, fresh yoghurt and yam, cucumber pachadi - a garnished salad, and puli inji – a sweet and tangy ginger-based chutney, are also available.
Kerala-style pappadam and mango pickle will be served to all First and Business Class customers, Emirates said.
Dessert menu will include Kerala favourites like palada pradhaman- creamy rice pudding served with roasted pistachios, raisins, and cashew nuts, or parippu payasam - the popular sweet lentil pudding topped with roasted coconut flakes.
All meals during this period will be served on banana leaf dish liners, adding an authentic feel to the traditional Kerala sadhya.
According to Emirates, passengers can also access entertainment options on its platform, Emirates Ice, featuring over 6,500 channels, more than 2,000 movies, 650 TV shows, and 4,000 hours of music, podcasts, and audiobooks in 40 languages. The options include 15 Malayalam movies and over 170 Indian films, as well as 48 music albums by Indian artists.
