Lufthansa Group will introduce its new high-speed in-flight internet service on August 19, with a Lufthansa Airbus A320neo as the first aircraft to offer the new Wi-Fi system.
Powered by Starlink, the service will provide passengers with internet speeds that can, in many cases, exceed those available at home or in the office.
Starlink Wi-Fi to reach 850 aircraft
Lufthansa Group is working with Starlink to install the satellite-based system across 850 aircraft operated by its airlines. The technology uses low-Earth-orbit satellites to support activities such as video streaming, cloud-based work, and other applications requiring high-speed internet access.
The rollout will make Lufthansa Group the largest airline group in Europe to equip its fleet with the system. The group plans to introduce the technology across its airlines on an accelerated schedule, as part of wider investments in new aircraft and changes to products and services throughout the travel journey.
“I am excited to announce the launch of the new Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi on board our Group aircraft. With it, we’re making high-speed internet an integral part of the travel experience - across all travel classes and on all Lufthansa Group airlines: That is how we understand premium,” said Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group.

“By 2029, all of the Group’s approximately 850 aircraft will be equipped with the technology. Our product promise doesn't end with the seats or the menu - today, connectivity is also an integral part of a truly outstanding onboard experience,” Vranckx added.
Along with Lufthansa, other Group airlines including SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa City Airlines, and Eurowings are also preparing to introduce the new Wi-Fi.
Free access for Miles & More and Travel ID users
The new Wi-Fi will provide web access to passengers and will operate under common terms of use for all travellers. The rules were developed using passenger survey feedback and include requirements to use headphones when playing audio or video, avoid voice and video calls, and not conduct live broadcasts from the aircraft.
The Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi service is sponsored by Mastercard, which has also partnered the group's existing FlyNet service.
Access to the new internet service will be free for all Miles & More members and Travel ID users, regardless of their travel class.
