Kolkata: Kolkata’s largest bookstore chain Starmark, in association with Bee Books, hosted the launch of the book ‘Swami Vivekananda: On Life to Budget’ by Dilip Datta at its South City Mall outlet here last month.
The launch was followed by a panel discussion in which Dr. H. P. Kanoria, Chairman, SREI Foundation and Prof. S. P. Mukherjee, former Centenary Professor, Calcutta University, took part.
Among those present on this occasion were Dr. Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Rupa Majumdar of Dev Sahitya Kutir, Chumki Chatterjee of Patrabharati and Mrs. Maya Siddhanta of Malini Patrika.
In this book, an attempt has been made to present to its readers the comprehensive collection of Swamiji’s views, thoughts and utterances on many facets and chapters of our life and on many issues of national importance. The book is like a pole-star and shall help one to discern the philosophy of life.
‘Swami Vivekananda: On Life to Budget’ meets the felt need for a book on Swami Vivekananda which presents his views, thoughts and utterances on various aspects of life and issues of national importance in a comprehensive manner, with his views on different ideologies, government policies, economics, industrial and agricultural development, poverty alleviation, education, women and women’s empowerment and other important issues highlighted.
Eminent writer and Sahitya Akademi Award winner Shri Sanjib Chattopadhyay, who has written the Foreword, feels that the book gives readers “an insightful look into Swami Vivekananda’s life and teachings”, making it “an imperative read for all”.

Dr. Dilip Datta is a management consultant. He regularly writes in various journals and magazines, both in English and Bengali. This is his fifth book. Other books are: Adri O Aditi (A book of poems), Bhalobasar Beejtalay (A book of poems), Indian Manufacturing Industries: Contemporary Issues, and A Brief History from Creation of Universe to Evolution of Human Being.
