Kolkata/IBNS: The Bengal Pro T20 League took a significant step forward in promoting women’s cricket with the successful completion of the Women’s Player Draft for Season 2, held on Monday.
The event witnessed an impressive turnout of talent, enthusiasm, and strategic team-building as franchises assembled their women’s squads for the highly anticipated upcoming season.
Post the first season of Bengal Pro T20 last year, the Bengal Women’s team at all levels have performed significantly well in all the major tournaments of the BCCI at all age categories and also emerging national Champions at the U15 category.
A total of 188 registered players, including top performers from the senior Bengal team, India U19 stars, and emerging talents from district and club cricket, Bengal U19 and Bengal U15 went under the hammer in a spirited Draft selection process.
All the Eight franchises participated in the draft, each curating a competitive mix of youth and experience to represent their colours in Season 2.
Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Snehasish Ganguly hailed the event as a landmark occasion and said: “The women’s draft reinforces our commitment to nurturing talent and building a sustainable platform for women’s cricket in Bengal. The passion of the Franchises displayed during the draft was truly inspiring and gives clear indication that the matches will be very competitive.”

Several young cricketers caught the eye of the franchises, who are set to make their Bengal Pro T20 League debut this season. The eight Marquee players of the franchise this season are:

Lux Shyam Kolkata Tigers - Mita Paul
Sobisco Smashers Malda - Hrishita Basu
Rashmi Medinipur Wizards - Richa Ghosh
Shrachi Rarh Tigers - Piyali Ghosh
Harbour Diamonds - Saika Ishaque
Murshidabad Kueens - Tanushree Sarkar
Speaking on the occasion, former cricketerJhulan Goswami said: “It’s truly heartening to see the Bengal Pro T20 League give such a strong platform to women cricketers."
"The draft reflects the depth of talent we have in Bengal, and this initiative will go a long way in inspiring the next generation of girls to dream big. I’m proud to be part of a system that is committed to taking women’s cricket forward.”
With structured training, increased visibility, and a growing fan base, the women’s league promises to be a game-changer for female cricketers in the state.
The Bengal Pro T20 League Season 2 is scheduled to kick off from May 16 at the MGR Academy Ground, Dubrajpur, Birbhum and the finals will be held at Eden Gardens on June 4.
