Along with the hustle and bustle of the city, with its “pandals” being decorated, thematic as well as traditional idols being given the finishing touch, markets being flooded with new clothes and the mood of the general public turning joyful in anticipation of the four days of festivities, Rotary and Rotaract in District 3291 were steadily gearing up for its annual Durga Puja award, “Rotary RotaractShaarodSwikriti".
As has been the custom for the Durga Puja awards, Rotaractors took the banners of Shaarod Swikriti to over 250 Puja committees in Kolkata and Howrah about a week prior to the Durga Puja.
On the day of 'Panchami', five cars covered the pandals for the judgment and scoring.
Since Rotary had collaborated with Rotaract in ShaarodSwikriti this year, the judgment panel constituted both Rotarians and Rotaractors.
The District Governor of RID 3291, Rtn Shyamashree Sen also accompanied the Rotaractors.
After a whole day spent in judging the pandals, the route for the Puja Parikrama was set. On the very next day, Rotaractors gathered around Rotary Sadan on J.L. Nehru Road early in the morning. Four air conditioned luxury Volvo buses, with the banners of ShaarodSwikriti 2016 took the 200 plus Rotaractors on the morning of "Shashti" for the Puja Parikrama which continued till 1000 pm, covering the best of the Pujas in Kolkata and Howrah.
