Kolkata, Dec 19 (JEN): During an international conference on advanced clinical medicine in Kolkata, Cardiologist Jean McEwan said that heart failure was a persistent and progressive disease in the world, while it was a major health problem in the UK.
"Heart failure is really big health problem in UK and it's increasing day by day. Till last year, 550,000 people were having HF (Heart Failure) in the country and the number has already been increased now," Dr. Jean McEwan said here at the MEDICON International 2016.
The expert said that heart failure was a leading cause of hospital admission in patients, aged 65 years or more.
"Heart failure has significant impact on all aspects of a patient's QOL (Quality of Life)," Dr. Jean McEwan added.
However, Dr. Jean McEwan said that there were several treatments of heart failure and it's steadily improving.
The third edition of Medicon International conference, jointly hosted by Peerless Hospital, B. K. Roy Foundation and Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, was held on Dec 17 and 18 in Kolkata's Hyatt Regency hotel.
