Guru Banani Chakraborty wants to ensure Bengal's classical dance is not lost
Kolkata, May 23 (NITN): Gaudiya Nritya, the classical dance form of Bengal, survives through the guru-shishya parampara' (a tradition where the teacher passes on his or her knowledge to select students), said Guru Banani Chakraborty at a recent recital held in Kolkata.

Organised by a city-based dance troupe, Garfa Mitrayan, the programme consisted of two parts -- Parampara and Jibanero Dhrubotara.

Parampara consisted of Guru Banani Chakraborty presenting the various aspects of Gaudiya Nrtiya along with her students.

Jibanero Dhrubotara, conceptualised by Chakraborty, was more like a ballet based on Gaudiya Nrtiya and folk dances of Bengal themed on the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Rabindranath Tagore.

Jibanero Dhrubtara was conceived, directed and choreographed by Banani Chakraborty, with creative direction from Subhadip Chakraborty, co-dance direction of Satabdi Acharyya Chakraborty and music direction by Subhadip Chakraborty and Ayan Mukherjee.
