Malaysia records lowest number of new COVID-19 cases in a month

Kuala Lumpur/Xinhua/UNI: Malaysia recorded the lowest number of new COVID-19 cases in over a month and zero deaths in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said on Monday.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said at a press briefing that 36 new cases have been detected, the lowest number since March 12, following a trend of lowering detected cases since last week.

No new deaths were reported and the total fatality stands at 89 cases.

The official said 98 more cases have been released, bringing the total cured and discharged to 3,295 in total or 60.7 percent of total infections.

There are also 45 cases currently being held in intensive care and 28 of those are in need of assisted breathing.
The lower new cases being reported in recent days are attributed to the pro-active approach in identifying cases in the past two weeks, Noor Hisham said.

He also warned that the number of cases could rise again, as the ministry continues aggressively conducting contact tracing and tests in an effort to screen Malaysians returning from overseas and infection hotspots placed under enhanced movement control restrictions.

The government is implementing a movement control order, starting on March 18 and scheduled to end on April 28. So far 10 areas have been placed under stricter restrictions after being identified as hotspots with case clusters detected.
