Zaskar: Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has inaugurated first ever Khelo India Zanskar Winter Sports Festival at Padum in Zanskar of Jammu and Kashmir's Kargil district.
The major features of the event are Ice Climbing, trekking on frozen Zanskar River, Ice Hockey, snow sculpture and ethnic food festival.
The Union Minister said in Instagram: "Inaugurated the spectacular Khelo India Winter Sports Festival at Zanskar, Ladakh. This area used to remain cut off from the rest of the world for 5-6 months due to heavy snow but no more now! @narendramodi Govt is committed to support these remote areas."
The event was attended by Lieutanant Governor Ladakh R. K. Mathur and Member of Parliament Jamyang Tsering Namgyal , Chief Executive Councilor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh Tashi Galsion.
