New Delhi/NITN: India has pushed back the scheduled date to restart regular international flights, according to reports.
India had decided to restart scheduled international flights from December 15 thid year, which has now been scrapped amidst fears of spread of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus.
Omicron has been identified as a Variant of Concern (VOC) by the World Health Organisation.
India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has said that it will announce new dates after assessing the situation.
In a circular dated December 1, the DGCA said that ‘in view of the evolving global scenario with the emergence of new Variants of Concern, the situation is being watched closely in consultation with all stakeholders and an appropriate decision indicating the effective date of resumption of scheduled commercial international passenger services shall be notified in due course’.
However, international flights under the air bubble agreements will not be affected.
In view of the spread of the COVID-19 virus all scheduled international flights to and from India have been suspended from March 23, 2020.
