Located very close to Taipei City, Yangmingshan is an ideal place for visitors to view Taiwan’s natural beauty in full splendour. Here you can see a wide variety of fresh flowers such as cherry blossoms, azalea, camellia and peach blossoms.
The annual Yangmingshan Flower Festival kicks off in 2014 in the second week of February and will continue enchanting visitors till the end of March! The 2014 Yangmingshan Flower Festival will be in full swing all around Taipei City — at Chiang Kai-shek Shilin Residence, Shuangxi Park, Lin Yu-tang House, Floriculture Experiment Center, Qianshan Park, and Yangming Park. If you want to behold the lovely Cherry Trees, visit the Wulai Township (in Taipei County) where from February to April, various cherry trees blossom along the winding mountain roads, valleys and rivers. Avid bird-watchers can have the chance to spot rare species of birds against the backdrop of the cherry blossoms.
The pavement on both sides of the winding Huanshan Road approaching Wulai Falls is lined with cherry trees, and the Wulai Naruwan Spring Resort Activity Village before the Falls already has cherry blossoms blooming all around it. Another favourite is the Sun Moon Lake which is always a very romantic location to be in, but during this time gets an added dimension thanks to the cherry blossom season! The Aboriginal Cherry Blossom festival includes a series of events centered on the hundreds of mountain cherry trees which line Sun Moon Lake and the over 2,000 cherry trees in the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village.
The Cherry Blossom Festival activities, never fails to attract tourists a large number of tourists from all over Taiwan and from abroad as well who come to view the cherry blossoms and take part in the lively celebrations. Every year, as a major part of this festival, an “Evening Cherry Blossom Activity” is sponsored. During this event, a lamplight is placed on each of the cherry trees, creating a romantic and poetic appearance of a colorful cherry blossom veranda.
