Janata Curfew to fight COVID 19: Delhi Metro keep its service closed on Sunday

New Delhi/NITN: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday said it will keep its service closed on Sunday.

In the wake of the COVID19 outbreak in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the nation to follow ‘Janata Curfew’ on Sunday.

DMRC tweeted: "In the wake of ‘Janta Curfew’ to be observed this Sunday i.e, on 22nd March 2020, DMRC has decided to keep its services closed. The move is aimed at encouraging public to stay indoors and maintain social distancing, which is essential in the fight against Covid-19. #JantaCurfew."

Amid the Novel Coronavirus outbreak, which claimed four lives so far and infected 186 people in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi  addressing the nation on Thursday urged all to adopt resolve and restraint to fight the menace of the virus and directed them to observe 'Janata curfew' coming Sunday by staying home, to help contain the infection spread. He also announced an economic task force to fight the economic challenge from the crisis.

Commencing his address, PM Modi said: "The present situation owing to Coronavirus is no better than World War I and II. India is fighting Coronavirus bravely. Everyone is doing his/her bit to combat the disease."

"At this hour of crisis, we need two tools: resolve and restraint to fight the menace," he said.
