Garuda Indonesia (GA) and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have announced their plans to establish a joint venture arrangement, aimed at strengthening their cooperation, expanding passenger capacity between Singapore and Indonesia, and offering customers more travel options between the two countries.

Pending regulatory approvals, the joint venture will cover routes between Singapore and Denpasar, Jakarta, and Surabaya. The agreement builds upon the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two airlines in November 2021.

The joint venture will enable Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines to coordinate schedules, providing customers with seamless flight connectivity between Singapore and Indonesia, as well as other destinations. Additionally, the partnership will explore new initiatives such as joint fare products and aligning corporate programs to enhance customer value.

Irfan Setiaputra, President and CEO of Garuda Indonesia, expressed his excitement about the partnership, emphasizing that it would strengthen the commitment between the two carriers and deliver a seamless and valuable flying experience to customers worldwide.

He also highlighted that the joint venture aims to optimize the network strategy and provide enhanced services for customers.

Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines, emphasized the win-win nature of the joint venture, stating that it would elevate the longstanding partnership between the two airlines. He emphasized the commitment to growing aviation markets in Indonesia and Singapore, promoting business and people connections, and positioning both countries as regional tourism destinations.

Phong also noted that customers would benefit from improved network connectivity, enhanced travel convenience, and additional fare options.

The partnership between Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines began in 2010 with codesharing on flights between Singapore and Denpasar. Over the years, the agreement expanded to include flights between Singapore and Surabaya and Jakarta.

The 2021 MoU further deepened the partnership, allowing both airlines to explore various commercial initiatives, including the alignment of frequent flyer programs, joint marketing activities, and promoting tourism in Indonesia. The partnership also extends to air freight and maintenance activities.

With this joint venture, Garuda Indonesia has expanded its codeshare arrangements with Singapore Airlines, now including services to London, Mumbai, and Johannesburg.

The collaboration aims to facilitate growth in the aviation industry, enhance customer experiences, and strengthen tourist flows between Indonesia and Singapore, offering international travelers a remarkable journey through Southeast Asia.
