Chennai/IBNS: An IndiGo flight en route from Kolkata to Chennai suffered an engine failure shortly before landing, triggering a scare before the aircraft landed safely at its destination on Tuesday, according to media reports.

Full emergency declared before landing

IndiGo flight 6E-723, carrying 224 people, declared a full emergency at 11:29 pm on August 11, shortly before its scheduled landing in Chennai, Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials said, as reported by News18.

The flight was scheduled to land at around 11:30 pm.

Pilot alerts air traffic control

The pilot alerted air traffic control after noticing that the aircraft's left engine had failed shortly before landing.

Following the alert, airport authorities activated emergency response measures to ensure the aircraft could land safely.

Flight lands safely

The aircraft landed safely at 11:37 pm on Runway 25, with all passengers and crew onboard safe.
