Lufthansa Group is renaming its Green Fare as Impact Fare, placing greater emphasis on the contribution customers make to sustainability in aviation. The name change also reflects new regulatory requirements for environmental communication.
Passengers who book an Impact Fare support additional use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) across the Lufthansa Group’s route network. They also contribute to selected climate protection projects outside the company’s value chain. Depending on the project, these initiatives aim to either prevent CO₂ emissions or remove CO₂ from the atmosphere.
The Impact Fare is available across all travel classes on Lufthansa Group airlines.
How the Impact Fare works
For every Impact Fare booking, the Lufthansa Group uses an additional amount of SAF in its flight operations within six months of departure. On flights within Europe, this amount is calculated based on 20% of the estimated flight-related CO₂ emissions.
The fare also supports climate protection projects, with the contribution calculated based on the remaining 80% of estimated flight-related CO₂ emissions. For intercontinental flights, the split is 10% for additional SAF use and 90% for climate protection projects.
Passengers booking the Impact Fare also receive additional Miles and Points. Depending on the booking class and destination, the fare may include more flexible rebooking options or allow changes without a fee.
More than five million passengers have booked the Green Fare
Introduced in 2023, the Green Fare has been booked by more than five million passengers to date.
Lufthansa Group follows five approaches to reduce emissions from aviation:
-
Fleet modernisation: Updating its aircraft fleet.
-
Fuel efficiency: Taking measures to reduce fuel consumption.
-
Sustainable Aviation Fuel: Increasing the use of SAF.
-
Intermodality: Expanding travel options that combine air travel with other modes of transport.
-
Customer sustainability options: Offering private and corporate customers ways to support additional sustainability measures.
The company has also been involved in global climate and weather research for more than 30 years.

In an effort to revive the joy of handwritten communication in an increasingly digital world, the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications, in collaboration with IndiGo, organised a unique Digital Detox Campaign on October 12, observed as Philately Day during the ongoing National Postal Week celebrations from October 9 to 15.
Singapore Airlines (SIA) is upgrading its in-flight entertainment system, KrisWorld, with new display technology, audio features, personalisation tools and high-speed internet connectivity. The changes are intended to give passengers more control over their entertainment and how they use their time on board.
