Starmark, in association with Niyogi Books, hosts the launch of ‘And the Teesta Flows...’
Kolkata March 15 (NITN) Authors Samita Chaudhuri and Utpal Chaudhuri unveiled their book, ‘And the Teesta Flows...’ at an outlet of leading lifestyle store Starmark in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Samita Chaudhuri said, “ It has been sixteen years after our only daughter Teesta left us. Engulfed in deep sorrow and unable to bear the pain, we were desperately in need of some solace. Therefore, we reached out at the River Teesta in search of some tranquillity, and from there on begins the journey of this story.”

The book is a heartfelt and extensively researched account of the communities and individuals around Teesta as she journeys from her ‘birth' in the upper Himalayas at the Indo-Sino border in Sikkim, though the West Bengal as she grows into a ‘girl’, and into the planes of Bangladesh, where she flows as a ‘lady’ and ultimately joins River Brahmaputra. Written in the style of a diary without chronology, the book sketches the diversity of the people living by the Teesta, delineating the tales of their philosophies, their lifestyles, their livelihoods and their emotions. The anecdotes that find place in the narrative are the authors' first-hand experiences of interactions with them. A memoir, a piece of dedication, an offering in remembrance of a loved one, call it what you may, this book is bound to touch your heart.

Besides the authors Samita Chaudhuri and Utpal Chaudhuri, the book launch also saw the presence of writer, editor and critic Debes Roy, singer Indrani Sen, painter Hiran Mitra and author Kunal Basu.

Speaking at the event,  Indrani Sen said: "I was surprised by the content of the book. Indeed, the book is very touching and reflects the pain of losing a daughter."

Published by Niyogi Books, the books has been priced at Rs. 1495/-.
