The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), East India Council, hosted a remarkable evening titled “Flavors of Friendship” recently, celebrating the rich culinary heritages of India and the United States.
The event served as a vibrant platform to highlight the unique similarities and innovative fusions that can emerge through cultural collaboration.
The evening commenced with a special fusion musical performance by internationally acclaimed artistes Sourendra and Soumyojit, setting the tone for a night of unity and celebration.
The Calypso King of Kolkata, Sumit Ray, followed with a lively jazz presentation that further added to the charm of the occasion.
Guests then enjoyed cocktails and networking, leading to a specially curated sit-down dinner that reflected the shared values of innovation, inclusivity, and celebration through food.
Speaking at the event, Quazi Rumman Dastgir, Consul for Political and Economic Affairs, U.S. Consulate Kolkata, remarked,
“The ‘Flavors of Friendship’ event organized by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, East India Council, is more than just a culinary celebration—it’s a showcase of the vibrant U.S.-India relationship. Through the shared bonhomie of music and food, we also open the door to deeper economic ties—whether by welcoming Indian investment into the United States or by introducing high-quality American food products to the Indian market. Together, we’re making both nations more prosperous.”
The evening was graced by Kolkata’s diplomatic community, business leaders, and the top tier of the city’s food and hospitality industry.
Adding star power to the gathering was Sourav Ganguly, former captain of the Indian cricket team, who lauded the IACC for this unique initiative.
“Food serves as a communal bridge that allows people to learn about one another,” said Ganguly.
He said: “In the context of India and America, food has played a pivotal role in shaping national identities, reflecting historical influences and modern fusion. Events like this help foster greater cultural appreciation and create lasting relationships.”
“Flavors of Friendship” successfully underscored how food and music can act as powerful unifying forces, creating meaningful connections and strengthening the spirit of partnership between India and the United States.
