A collaboration seminar was held recently between the Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC) under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, and Rotary District 3291 with the aim of effective transfer of technology and exploring innovative scientific advancements for societal benefit.

Orchestrated by District Governor Nominee (3291), Tapas Bhattacharya, the seminar witnessed the participation of distinguished members from both organizations, reinforcing a shared vision of leveraging technology for the greater good.

The seminar commenced with an address by Shri Suman Guha, a representative from the Technology Transfer and Coordination Division of VECC, who outlined the session’s objectives and emphasized the role of technology in addressing societal challenges.

Dr. Krishendu Gupta, the sitting District Governor of Rotary District 3291, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in achieving technological and humanitarian advancements. He urged attendees to support and engage in initiatives that align with these shared goals.

A key highlight of the seminar was a detailed presentation by Dr. Tapas Samanta, Head of the Computer and Informatics Group and Technology Transfer and Coordination Division at VECC.

He provided a comprehensive overview of the achievements of the Department of Atomic Energy, supported by historical insights.

Dr. Samanta showcased various technologies developed by the DAE that have been successfully transferred to corporations, allowing for a broader reach to the masses.

He called upon Rotary to assist in facilitating these technology transfers to corporations capable of scaling up innovations, thereby enhancing human welfare.

His presentation sparked keen interest and prompted an engaging Q&A session, with senior Rotary leaders actively participating.

Further enriching the discussion, Shri Suman Guha introduced an initiative by the DAE titled “Udgam Se Ant Tak”, a mass awareness campaign aimed at the conservation and rejuvenation of riverbanks, particularly focusing on the stretch from Gaumukh to Haridwar. He encouraged Rotary to adopt and replicate similar projects along other riverbanks, furthering environmental sustainability and ecological conservation efforts.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Rotarian Ravi Saigal, who highlighted potential areas for collaboration, particularly Rotary International’s initiatives related to river cleanup and conservation efforts.

The meeting ended on a positive and promising note, with an exchange of good wishes among participants. Attendees also received saplings sourced by the DAE, symbolizing a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable growth.
