Want to provide solace through my music: Pt. Tarun Bhattacharya
Kolkata, May 5 (NITN) Santoor Maestro Pt. Tarun Bhattacharya, while performing in a concert along with his troupe in Kolkata, said this is their debut attempt where they have attempted to present a music concert with five Santoor exponents including him, playing the instrument simultaneously, portraying an innovative and unique concept on stage.

The musical show, "500 Strings of Santoor", was organised on Wednesday at ICCR, Kolkata.

Talking to IBNS, Bhattacharya said: “I have formed a troupe comprising five  Santoor exponents which has been entitled as 500 Strings of Santoor.”

Supported by percussionist Prosenjit Poddar on Tabla and Pradip Nag on Mohan Veena, the five musicians weaved a different variation of the instrument, producing a mixture of classical and world music that had transcended the age barrier and appealed to both the classes and masses alike in the evening.

“Santoor or Shata Tantra Veena has always been successful in lending people immense solace amidst the busy lanes of the peaceful nature,” he added.

His track list included Classical, Semi-classical, Bhatiali, Pahari, Western and many other variations.

On being asked about his popular field in music, he said:“Besides being specialized in classical music, I have always been loved by the mob for my Bhatiali songs, especially in the foreign countries, where they repeatedly demanded for my CD's and live concerts on Bhatiali.”
