The actor is currently in Kolkata to promote his autobiography Khullam Khulla - Rishi Kapoor Uncensored (with Meena Iyer), published by Harper Collins. Launched on Jan 17, the book covers his four-decade-long journey as an actor and person, and has generated a tremendous response for its candid and no-hold-barred style of narration.
Rishi Kapoor is one of India’s most popular film stars. He debuted as a child artiste in his father Raj Kapoor’s magnum opus Mera Naam Joker, winning a National Award for his performance.
His first role in the lead came with Bobby, a blockbuster that established a new template for the teeny-bopper romance. In the next few years he delivered musical super hits like Khel Khel Mein, Laila Majnu, Hum Kisise Kum Naheen, Sargam and Karz. Over the last decade, Rishi Kapoor has delivered some of the finest performances of his career in a diverse array of roles – a middle-class school teacher in Do Dooni Chaar, a dreaded don in D-Day, a pimp in Agneepath and a naughty patriarch in Kapoor & Sons – far removed from the chocolate-boy romantic hero of the ’70s.
The actor interacted with his fans and shared his frank perspective on his accomplishments, success, failures and milestones.
He enthralled the crowd with his characteristic repertoire, while they posed for selfies with the superstar and getting their personalized autographed copy of the book.
Siddharth Pansari, Director, Primarc Group said, “We at STORY believe that autobiography and memoirs are an important literary genre. A celebrity memoir is both inspirational, insightful and entertaining and therefore has a mass connect. We are delighted to have the iconic Rishi Kapoor at STORY and glad to see readers and fans enjoy an interactive book signing session with him.”
