‘Patram’ offers stunning handmade items straight from India’s artisans to buyers
Kolkata, June 24 (NITN): Home. It’s a word that implies comfort and a sense of belonging. It’s the space you come back to after work, to relax and soothe away the troubles of the long day. It’s your domain - the place you feel at one with your family.

So wouldn’t you want your home to be looking the best it possibly could? To pay attention to every single nook and cranny, do it up tastefully and with a sense of real artistic direction?

Make a trip to ‘Patram’ - the tableware and home decor exhibition organised at Kamala, the retail outlet of Crafts Council of India. Any shopper will be dazzled with the sheer variety of items on offer: hand block-printed bed-covers, table-cloths and cushion-covers from Sanganer and Jaipur; Bread boards, cheese boards, cutlery stands and coasters in sheesham wood with designed edges; Slatted teak-wood wooden trays in different sizes and mirrors for the dressing table, and hand-painted Madhubani trays in a stunning range.

And there’s more - wooden toys for children from Varanasi and Saharanpur; Wall mirrors for the children’s bedroom; Napkin holders, book-ends and candle stands; Musland floor coverings and Mudas from Tripura and Bengal; Pottery from Shantiniketan, Jharkhand and Jaipur for the dining-table and kitchen; Cane laundry baskets from Bengal; Water hyacinth and dokra wall plaques from Machhlandapur and many more, sourced from all over India.

“At Kamala, the emphasis is on hand-made products, each one crafted with great attention and care by Indian artisans working in clusters and communities across India. Many of India’s crafts face the danger of becoming obsolete, but we are putting in sustained efforts to make sure our artisans’ talent stands the test of time,” said Ms. Kasturi Gupta Menon, president, Crafts Council of India.

This year, watch out for eye-catching items in particular like the colourful wooden cats which will add a touch of kitsch to any room, the stunning ceramic collection, the cane baskets - sustainable and stylish, as well as the beautifully crafted bamboo trays from Ahmedabad. Prices for various items start at Rs. 400 and go upwards.

The exhibition will be on from June 24 to July 1.
