'One Day One Story' campaign aims to make children fall in love with reading
Kolkata, Sep 14 (NITN): One of Kolkata’s leading bookstore chain, Starmark, in association with Pratham Books, Wild Strawberry, and Lions Clubs of Calcutta Roshni District 322B1, held a storytelling session for children at its Quest Mall outlet, on International Literacy Day.

Every year, to celebrate International Literacy Day, Pratham Books conducts its nationwide campaign 'One Day, One Story' that aims to spread the joy of reading through storytelling and to encourage children to fall in love with reading.

More than 100 children—from privileged and under privileged schools—heard master storyteller Priyanka Chatterjee, from Wild Strawberry, reveal the secret of a sleepy kingdom where the king could not sleep at night, the name of the story being ‘Kottavi Raja and his Sleepy Kingdom’.

The storytelling was conducted both in Hindi and Bengali to reach out to the under-privileged children who participated in this interactive session.

The audience enthusiastically responded when Chatterjee asked them to enact the problems described by the ministers in Kottavi Raja's court because of the King’s irregular sleeping habits.

So the children were found yawning loudly and then snoring even louder.

They came up with various solutions they would have suggested to the King to be able to sleep during the night. They sang Raaga Neelambari to make Kottavi Raja sleep and meditated to calm down Kottavi Raja's mind.

They even tried out hand puppets of Kottavi Raja, Queen Sujata and other characters from the story.
