SSC CGL: 39,434 more candidates to qualify for Tier 2 as Cut-off Drops

After sorting out all the technical glitches that happened in the exam, SSC has released a revised result for its Combined Graduate Level Exam (CGL). This news has actually benefitted a lot of students as the cutoff marks for almost all the categories under the exam has fallen, which has resulted in more candidates qualifying for the exam. Precisely, 39,434 additional candidates have moved onto the next stage of exam, as a result of this revision.

The initial result of the exam was released on October 30th, 2017. The commission has released the revised result by posting an official statement on its website, which states,“It was discovered that due a technical glitch in the system, some tentative answer keys have not been revised. Therefore, the commission undertook a comprehensive review. Based on this comprehensive review, there has been a lowering in the cutoff marks, which has led to a revision of result.”

From the initial result, the number of candidates eligible to appear for the post of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) were 10311, candidates eligible to appear for further exams for the post of Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) were 15450 and the candidates eligible to appear for other posts were 150404. However, due the revision of result, the numbers have risen significantly to 14515, 21946 and 189838 for JSO, AAO and other posts respectively.

If we look at the cutoffs, the cutoffs for Unreserved (UR) Category have decreased from 151 to 146.5 for JSO, 152.5 to 148 for AAO and 131 to 126.5 for other jobs. Similarly, the cutoffs for OBC category have also fallen to 135.5 from 140 for JSO, 135.5 from 140.5 for AAO and 100 from 115 for other jobs. The cutoffs for other categories have also fallen.

The candidates who have qualified will now have to appear for Tier II examinations, which are to be held within 17-22 February, 2018. Earlier, the Tier II examinations were to be held within 18-20 January, 2018.

The admit cards for Tier II examinations will be released around 10 days prior to the exam. An official statement said,” The admit cards of the qualified candidates will be uploaded on the websites of concerned regional offices approximately 10-11 days before the date of Tier II exam. In case some candidates are unable to download the admit card, they may contact their respective regional offices at least 7 days before the exam date. The responsibility of downloading the admit card is solely of the candidates.”

Staff Selection Commission conducted CGL is an amazing opportunity for the candidates who want to pursue a stable and respected career in the government sector. However, an anomaly here is that candidates who have cleared SSC CGL 2016 have not got their appointments yet. Last year, the exam was cleared by 10,661 candidates who are still stranded. Initially, these candidates were allotted posts but their appointment was put to halt due to a case filed by some candidates, claiming that the checking of the papers was not done properly. SSC responded to their claims and all the cases were resolved by October 23rd, 2017 and SSC also said that new lists will be prepared for candidates. But, more than 2 months have gone by and we have not seen any action from SSC.
