Lothal, about 80km from Ahmedabad by road, is the site of an artificial dockyard and an urban centre dating back to the Indus Valley Civilisation.
The Complex, spread over 400 acres, will showcase the maritime heritage of India from ancient to modern times, and will have a National Maritime Heritage Museum, a LightHouse Museum, a Heritage Theme Park, Maritime Institute, etc.
NMHC will have a pavilion for each coastal state and union territory to showcase the artefacts and maritime heritage of the respective states and union territories.
There are also plans to build several theme parks, such as Maritime and Naval Theme Park, Monuments Park, Climate Change Theme Park, Adventure and Amusement Theme Park.
There will also be museum themed hotels and maritime themed eco-resorts to make the Heritage Complex an international attraction.
