Shimla/NITN: Tourists can now look forward to a journey by the narrow gauge trains on the Shimla Kalka route as the Indian Railways have resumed operations of four trains from this week.

The four trains are the Kalka Shimla (Special) Express, the Shivalik Express, the Railway Motor Car, and the glass roofed Vistadome train.

The Shimla Kalka narrow gauge railway is one of the three Indian mountain railways to be awarded the UNESCO Heritage tag.

The other two being the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and the Nilgiri Mountain Railway.

The Ambala Division of the Northern Railway has also re-introduced a hop-on hop-off facility on this route.

A passenger may see all places of tourist’s interest on the purchase of a single ticket, subject to terms and conditions, and within the validity period of the ticket.

Tickets, which start from Rs 500 for a calendar day validity, can be bought at all the stations between Kalka and Shimla.

With the Himachal Pradesh government easing pandemic restrictions through the state, especially removing the mandatory requirement of a negative RT-PCR test report by all arriving passengers, relaxation in shop opening timings and the Himachal Pradesh State Transport restarting operations to many areas, tour and hotel operators expect tourism to pick up the state.
