London's Design Museum announces major exhibitions
29 Apr 2015, 03:31 pm
London, Apr 28 (NITN): Design and architecture museum, the Design Museum, is to host the first-ever museum exhibition on the Spanish shoe brand Camper.
Life On Foot, which opens next month and will run until 1 November, marks the 40-year anniversary of the independent family-run shoe business.
Taking visitors from the design studios in Mallorca to high-tech mass production facilities in the Far East, and on to shop floors across the globe, the exhibition charts the entire design and manufacturing process of Camper's products, as well as their conceptual retail spaces. The exhibition brings together sketched concepts, prototype products, as-yet-unreleased pieces and new photography.
Then, from 18 November - 30 June 2016, the museum will feature a major exhibition celebrating the bicycle; the huge interest in bicycles and bicycling at every level, from every day commuting to Olympic level competition has driven a wave of creative innovation for mass market cycling, and resulted in a surge of craftsman bicycle makers.
November will also see the arrival of exhibition The New International Style - The Parametric Revolution, guest curated by Patrik Schumacher (director at Zaha Hadid Architects, the people behind the London Aquatics Centre), running until 30 June 2016.
It sets out to explore the range, the roots, and the future of the creative and complex view of the world of design, a movement that is based on new approaches to design and making buildings, ranging from architecture to every form of design.
The Design Museum will be relocating from its current home at Shad Thames to the former Commonwealth Institute building in Kensington, west London in 2016. The Commonwealth Institute building will give the museum three times more space in which to show a wider range of exhibitions, showcase its world-class collection and significantly extend its learning programme.
