Kashmir: Tulip Gardens opens for visitors

Srinagar, Apr 1 (NITN): Asia's largest tulip garden on the banks of Dal Lake here was thrown open to visitors on Saturday, marking the beginning of the new tourism season in the Valley.

The 15-shectare garden in the foothills of Zabarwan Range was officially opened to visitors by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department.

Spread over 30 hectares, nearly 1 million tulips of 53 different species adorn and add color to the tulip garden which is decked in between Csheshma Shahi and Botanical Garden on one side and the Dal Lake and Mughal Gardens on the other.

While talking to reporters Farooq Ahmad Shah, Secretary State Tourism Department said, “For the first time, 48 varieties of tulips have come to bloom in the garden where we have sown 1.5 million bulbs of the flower this year,".
