Kolkata, May 16: The Fatty Bao, one of Kolkata's popular Asian gastrobars, is holding a mango festival called “Mango Matinee” between May 20 and June 20, 2019.
Chef Sumit and his team have focused on using the king of fruits in more ways than one, from salads, to main course, to desserts.
Smoked Chicken, Roasted Mango and Banana Blossom Salad to the crisp and crunchy Crazy Mango Shrimp Sushi Roll, Thai Mango Chicken to Feisty Mango Curry, to the light and sweet Mango Panna Cotta, are some of the highlights from the menu.
For those who love to be adventurous, there is Mango Carpaccio (thin slices of gulabkhas mango with mint and mango panna caviar drizzled with yuzu dressing and topped with nori and gari dust); Thai Mango Chicken (chicken with bell peppers, snow peas, raw mango puree, raw mango cubes, fried garlic, basil, coconut and a garlic and chili glaze).
Dig into a Crazy Mango Shrimp Sushi Roll(shrimp tempura, iceberg, jalapeno, mango and cream cheese sauce, topped with a delicately spiced mango powder) or a Crisp Sweet Potato Sushi Roll (with cream cheese, jalapeno and mango, spiced mango jelly, dry mango and shichimi powder), depending on your dietary preference.
If you want something light and refreshing, try the Smoked Chicken, Roasted Mango and Banana Blossom Salad (coconut jelly, crisp mango and sriracha tuile, micro greens, chili tamarind with a basil and sriracha dressing).
For mains, order the scrumptious Feisty Mango Curry (rich creamy basil, lemongrass, mango and coconut curry with snow peas, bamboo shoot, tofu finished with chili oil).
Or, order a portion of Raw Mango Sticky Jasmine Rice (made with raw mango, basil and Thai flavoured sticky rice, chili oil, fried garlic, spring onion and fresh red chili).
End your meal with the Mango Panna Cotta (mango cubes, crisp mango, vanilla pastry cream, mango panna cotta, mint leaf, coconut lime sorbet, mango gel, and microwave baked pistachio sponge).
The dishes are priced between Rs 225 and Rs 465 (plus taxes)
