Kolkata's CK Birla Hospitals - BMB to offer 30 cardiac angiographies to deserving patients this year

Kolkata: From patients aged three years to nonagenarians were present at the 30th anniversary celebration of Kolkata's CK Birla Hospitals - BMB, recently with many of them narrating about their recovery from coronary diseases after being treated by doctors here.

CK Birla Hospital consists of CMRI (The Calcutta Medical Research Institute), BMB (BM Birla Heart Research Centre) and its recent venture, RBH (Rukmani Birla Hospital).

CK Birla Hospitals - BMB, India’s first national accreditation board for hospitals and healthcare providers (NABH) accredited distinctive super-speciality hospital, focuses on cardiac care based on three key principals -- clinical excellence, quality cardiac care and patient centricity.

Catering to a wide spectrum of cardiac ailments in children and adults, the hospital has been providing quality cardiac care, diagnosis, treatment, and research of cardiovascular diseases for over 30 years.

“I had almost thought of  giving up my business but after being treated here I not only run my business but have expanded it too," said TV Azam (from Bangladesh), the first patient to have cardiac resynchronization therapeutic defibrillator (CRTD) implantation some twenty-five years back.

Almost the same story was shared by Gopalika who underwent TAVI implantation, the most advanced procedure in Valve replacement.

“Azam didn’t even have a life expectancy of more than five years,” said Dr. Anil Mishra who treated Azam over the years.

Anmol, a three-old child, who was diagnosed with a complex cardiac condition and underwent arterial switch surgery was also  present with his parents.

According to a hospital representative, “Such a rare defect-incidence happens to 1 in 3,300 babies, who will be born having TGA. Success rates in these cases are few. In the western world, we have only three per cent mortality, while in developing countries the figure stands at 15 per cent."

Sharing the experience of a heart attack at a tender age of 23, anothe patient, Ghatta said, “I could hardly think of having a heart attack as it is usually a disease of old man but thanks to my cardiologist who have given me a ray of hope and today I am fit as a fiddle."

Dr. Simmardeep Singh Gill, COO, CK Birla Hospitals said, ”Since inception, this hospital has been committed to provide quality cardiac care, a focus from which we have not shifted.”

He also said, "On this occasion, I would like to announce that this year we plan to offer thirty cardiac angiographies to deserving patients.”
