Rotary International is an international organisation formed in 1905, headquartered in United States, working for the humanitarian purposes in different parts of the world, including polio eradication, literacy and sanitation.
The meeting was initiated by the dance programmes and a drama followed by the interaction with the director.
Desai acknowledged the programmes organised by various Rotary clubs of Kolkata in the last one year that includes Iftar, programmes with underprivileged children, Independence day.
“I come to Kolkata and get lots of ideas about the organisation” said Desai.
However, Desai surprisingly did not reveal much about the future programmes that could be taken up by the Rotary.
Upholding new ideas, Desai seeked innovation for the clubs saying that, “Innovation is the key for Rotary also.”
Speaking about the future strategies, Desai said: “The board needs to hold a meeting and decide something. It can focus on a particular area or a spectrum of mission.”
Addressing the needs of the society from Rotary, he added: “I personally feel needs vary from one country to the other.”
Desai acknowledged 'service' as a key point of any mission to be taken up by the organisation.
“There must be a vision statement consisting of value, purpose and a big goal” the director added.
Literacy is one area where he would like to focus on.
In this context, he said: “We have to focus on villages for literacy to be relevant.”
“Compassion and sincerity” are important things that Rotary must continue to possess, said Desai.
The director considered Rotary International to be “the bridge between the things that have done and the ones have not done yet.”
The new members of the Rotary and the members who gave donations were awarded by Manoj Desai in the course of the programme.
District Governor Shyamashree Sen thanked Rotary International Manoj Desai for providing guidance and showing Rotary's future vision to the packed auditorium braving torrential rains.
