Travel Data

A routine question on a visa or job application can suddenly turn tricky: where exactly have you travelled internationally in the last 10 years? Indians often need proof of their past international travel for visa applications, employment checks, university admissions, or other official paperwork.
Depending on faded passport stamps, misplaced old passports, or scattered email records can often lead to guesswork and errors. There is, however, a more reliable and official way to access this information.
Say, if a visa application asks for the countries visited in the last five or ten years, unclear stamps or missing records can become a problem. Instead of estimating travel history, Indians can apply for verified international travel data through the government’s e-FRRO portal indianfrro.gov.in . The process allows applicants to obtain an official record of their overseas travel by following a defined set of steps.
Apply through the e-FRRO portal
The process begins online through the official e-FRRO portal. You must first register as a user to access the services available on the platform. Once registered, applicants can log in using their credentials and begin a new request.
After logging in, make sure to start a fresh application and select the correct service. This step can sometimes be confusing, as the required option may not appear immediately during navigation. To locate it correctly, follow these steps:
- Click on New Application after logging in
- From the Service List, select Travel History
If the option does not appear at first, applicants may need to repeat the navigation process, as the service is not always visible upfront.
Selecting Travel History from the Service List is the correct way to proceed with the application.
Enter passport details carefully
Once the correct service is selected, applicants must enter their passport details and specify the travel period for which the data is required. Accuracy is very important at this stage.
If the passport has been renewed during the selected period, both the old and new passport numbers should be kept ready. International travel records may be split across multiple passports, and providing complete information ensures the data retrieved is accurate and comprehensive.
Fees, Documents, and Verification Process
Applicants are required to pay a fee of INR 1,000 to process the request. During the application, a reason for seeking travel history data must be selected. Always try to choose the closest genuine option, such as:
- A visa checklist email
- A university or educational requirement
- An employer’s letter
- Any other official request
Supporting documents may also be required, depending on the reason selected, so keep them handy.
A key part of the process is physical verification. Applicants are required to appear in person at the FRRO with their passport for verification. If the applicant is currently abroad, verification is typically carried out through the Indian Mission or Consulate in the country of residence.
Once all steps are completed and verification is done, the applicant receives a password-protected PDF containing the international travel history. This document is sent to the registered email address of the applicant, usually within three working days.
