Ottawa, Mar 26 (NITN): Canada has recorded an increase of 19.3 per cent Indian tourist arrivals in the year 2014 with a positive growth in each month in comparison to 2013.
Overnight arrivals from all of Canadian Tourism Commission’s overseas markets increased at a double digit pace from January-December 2014.
India is Canada’s 10th largest overseas market which makes it an attractive key market.
Canada as a vacation destination is very exciting for Indian travellers; however as a promising market, there is growth every year.
"The growing and affluent middle class has a desire to travel. Canada has captured a greater share of India’s long-haul outbound market over the past few years. This is with support of the common language (English), positive trade relationship, improving visa services, as well as India’s economic prosperity, rising income levels, affluent and aware middle class," an official statement said.
SanJeet-India Representative, Canadian Tourism Commission said, “India is a lucrative market for Canada. Having shown a growth of about 20 per cent proves that Indians are looking at exploring Canada for its uniqueness. It offers the most refreshing and thrilling itineraries. From scenic beauty, shopping, adventure to train journeys, Canada has everything to offer for Indian travellers."
The launch of the CAN+ visa programme in India in July 2014 has contributed to growth in arrivals, since the visa application process has improved considerably. It was launched to help speed up and ease the process for travellers going to Canada.
Indian nationals, who have travelled to Canada or the US within the past 10 years, are able to obtain a Canadian visa without having to submit proof of economic solvency.
These applicants also benefit from expedited processing, with an average turnaround time of five days. The majority of visas issued are for multiple entries which can be valid up to 10 years or up to the validity of the applicant’s passport. This new programme and opening of more visa application centres across India is encouraging for the India market and will help boost the number of leisure travellers.
